As your life, your business, and your career continue to evolve, it’s common to need to make tweaks and changes within your personal and professional life to continue your journey to achieving success. Even small changes can have a significant impact on how you show up in the world.

Today, I want to share with you one small tweak that I recently made in my personal life and how it has dramatically improved my business – and my life.

By taking ownership of my daily schedule, by making a small tweak, I’ve really been able to generate great results.

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • How small changes in your daily routine can improve how you show up in the world
  • How outsourcing tasks and finding an accountability partner helps “free up” mental space so you can work more productively

My Challenge to You:

  • Ask yourself: What small tweak can I make in my daily schedule that can generate big results?
  • Ask yourself: What am I not allowing myself to consider because I think “this is the only way it works for me?”
  • Be open and fluid. Explore opportunities. Try new things.

In an age where fame is celebrated for fame, many fierce feminine leaders hold themselves back from building a powerful personal brand. Some even believe that building a personal brand is little more than a vacuous, attention-seeking activity when, in reality, it is so much more than that.

On today’s episode, I’m sharing a replay of a recent personal branding training seminar called Rise Up: 7 Unconventional Strategies to Build Your Personal Brand. I explain what a personal brand is and why it’s important for advancing your career or business as well as share actionable strategies you can use to start building your powerful personal brand. I also explain why you should view your personal brand as a reflection of your values and what you represent and why it should be considered an asset to your professional career.

“When you think about great leaders - in order for them to be great leaders, to be recognized as such - it’s not just the impact that they have one-on-one. It’s about what they represent and the impact they have at scale.’ - Eleanor Beaton

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • How building a personal brand allows you to make a greater impact on your industry and humanity.
  • How your personal brand relates to your values and what you represent.
  • What is a personal brand?
  • Why your personal brand should be considered an asset to your business and career.
  • Why now is the time to build your personal brand
  • Identifying the core reason you want to build a personal brand and what you want to achieve.
  • The life cycle of opportunity.
  • Getting clear on various obstacles you may face as you build your personal brand and how to overcome them.
  • How your personal brand impacts your influence.
  • The connection between leadership, influence, and your personal
  • Overcoming the fear of playing big.
  • Dealing with criticism and push back while creating impact and building a personal brand.
  • How adopting a mission bigger than yourself helps you build a strong personal brand.
  • How to identify a bigger, more meaningful mission to adopt.
  • What it means to own the promise of your mission.
  • The importance of sharing your bold, galvanizing point of view on topics you are passionate about.
  • Overcoming the “people pleaser” mindset and getting comfortable with other people disagreeing with you.
  • The difference between fear-based boundaries and intentional boundaries.
  • The importance of mastering the art of public speaking.
  • What “conviction’ means and how to cultivate it.

Fierce Leadership Quotes:

  • “When you have impact at scale, it means you can amplify the impact that you want to have for much less effort.”
  • “If your personal brand exists only for other people - you are missing the biggest part of the equation.”
  • “Your personal brand is about intentional contribution that reflects your values.”

As a woman, it can be challenging to gain the respect you deserve if you are working in a male-dominate industry and now one knows that better than today's guest.

Elem Rinomato’s journey into the construction industry began at the tender age of 8 when she asked her father the simple question, “Daddy, what is drywall?” Today, she is the president of Torino Drywall, a company that builds wall and ceiling system for high-rise and low-rise residential and commercial construction projects as well as the owner of Country Homes – a residential home construction company for the Greater Toronto Area. She is also the Vice President of the Rinomato group of commercial companies, the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Interior Systems Contractors Association, and a board member of the local apprenticeship committee.

Elem is an incredibly fierce feminine leader in the construction industry, and today, she joins me on the show to share her story. She explains what it was like to be the only woman in the boardroom and how she overcame gender bias in a male-dominated business world.

“At the end of the day, one of the only things you have in life is the ability to make your own decisions. If you don’t voice your opinion, if you don’t say how you really feel, you become guilty of letting other people make choices for you.” – Elem Rinomato

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • What she did to set her company apart from her competitors.
  • What it was like to be the only woman in the room – and how she earned the respect of her male counterparts.
  • How to get your voice heard in a male-dominant industry.
  • How removing negativity – and negative people – from your life helps you shift your mindset and become a powerhouse businesswoman.
  • Female intuition and how it helps you achieve success.
  • Why energy, authenticity, and attitude in business is more important than facts, education, money, circumstances, failures, and success.
  • Overcoming the fear of success.

Elem Rinomato’s Top 3 Success Strategies:

  • Know your stuff.
  • Attitude is everything.
  • Believe in yourself.

When it comes to personal branding, there is a lot of conventional wisdom, information, and insight floating around the internet. From articles in business magazines and on LinkedIn to professional development workshops, training, and books - there are dozens of “experts” teaching others how to build their personal brand through conventional methods and wisdom. On the surface, most of this advice seems reasonable. However, if you dig a little deeper, you will likely find that the advice and wisdom they share is often counterproductive, ineffective, and even damaging.

On today’s episode, I’m discussing why everything you’ve learned about building your personal brand is wrong. I share the three most common myths about building your personal brand, how believing these myths can actually hold you back from achieving your professional goals, and how they can prevent you from showing up as the strong, confident, fierce feminine leader we know you can be. I also explain why your personal brand should be viewed as the byproduct of your decision to be deliberate and intentional and why the way you present yourself and your brand should reinforce your ideas, values, and mission in this world.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today if I had listened to the bad, but conventional, advice I received about personal branding.” - Eleanor Beaton

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • The importance of aligning your personal brand with your instincts and values.
  • Why building your personal brand is not a “fluff-filled activity.”
  • The dangers of taking advice from people with “unconscious competence.”
  • Why your reputation is critical to your long-term success.
  • Why your presentation should reinforce your ideas.
  • Why the idea that your personal brand is your lead indicator is wrong
  • The importance of viewing your personal brand as the lag indicator - not the compass.
  • Why your brand should be a natural byproduct of you being true to the things that matter most to you.

Top 3 Myths About Personal Branding:

  1. Don’t build your personal brand.
  2. Presentation trumps ideas.
  3. Building a personal brand constricts your freedom of expression and decisiveness.

Fierce Leadership Quotes:

  • “Bold presentation is going to be most powerful when it reinforces your ideas.”
  • “A brand is a return on investment. It is a lag indicator that you build from being intentional about your values, what you bring to the world, and the contribution you want to make.”
  • Don’t lead with brand. Brand is the afterglow. Action and intention are the things that are going to get you where you want to go.”

Do you strongly believe that working hard produces its own results and rewards? That if you work hard enough, you won’t need to “toot your own horn” and share your accomplishments with others because, ultimately, your hard work is proof of your success and accomplishments?

Many brilliant, high-achieving professional women shy away from talking about themselves, their accomplishments, and their successes because they don’t want to come off as obnoxious or leave the impression that they are bragging. What many of these fierce ladies may not realize, though, is that sharing their accomplishments with the world helps them claim their power, their authority, and their voice.

So, how can you subtly toot your own horn without coming off as obnoxious or braggy? That, my fierce friends, is exactly what I’m going to share with you today! I’m sharing five powerful strategies to help you share your accomplishments and successes without sounding like you have a chip on your shoulder.

“As you advance, that hard work and the results become table stakes.”

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • Why sharing your accomplishments are critical to your potential for advancement
  • How to share your accomplishments without sounding obnoxious
  • The importance of scheduling weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly “check-ins” with your boss or clients

5 Tips to Subtly Toot Your Own Horn:

  1. Talk about your team, their results, while making it clear that you are in the driver’s seat
  2. Take your boss and your client out to lunch
  3. Get recommendations on LinkedIn
  4. Use the power of stories
  5. Share what you have learned.

If you want to make a strong impact in the world while doing the work you love, you need to build your personal brand. Many fierce leaders struggle with building their personal brand, so they turn to information on the internet or published books to seek tips and strategies that will help them create the brand they desire. Unfortunately, most of these tips and strategies are either outdated or ineffective.

On today’s episode, I’m discussing why you need to triple down on your personal brand this year and share effective strategies to help you elevate it, so it can open doors of opportunity for you and your business. I explain why your personal brand is the by-product of your daily actions and how to build your personal brand based on the things you already know and are doing. I also explain how your personal brand impacts your reputation and perceived value and how it can set you apart from your competitors - especially in a world of “information overload.”

“Your personal brand is a return on investment. It is not the lead indicator.” - Eleanor Beaton

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • Why you need to build a strong personal brand.
  • \How to build your personal brand by focusing on what you know and are doing already.
  • How your personal brand impacts your reputation and perceived value.
  • How building a strong personal brand can impact your business.
  • Why most information regarding building a personal brand is not effective.

Fierce Lead Strategies to Build Your Personal Brand:

  1. Adopt a mission that is bigger than you.
  2. Arm yourself with killer statistics about your area of focus.
  3. Take a galvanizing point of view. Have an opinion. Take a position.
  4. Master the art of public speaking.
  5. Be authentically unconventional.

  7. Cultivate your conviction.

Fierce Leadership Quotes:

  • “Personal brand is the return on investment from being intentional about doing other things. It is the by-product.”
  • “In the world of work, success is not just about what you know. Nor is it about who you know. It is about who knows what you know.”

Gender inclusion in the corporate and working world has come a long way over the last several decades. However, now that more women are starting to hold seats at the tables where the big decisions are made - many female leaders struggle with speaking up, providing their valuable insight, and making meaningful contributions to the conversations and decisions that are being made.

On today’s episode, I’m discussing why you need to speak up, buttercup! I explain why powerhouse women won’t stay silent when sitting around the big tables in their businesses or organizations and how staying silent robs the conversation - and the people in it - of your value, insight, and brilliance. I’ll also share strategies you can use to help you find your voice and speak up at the tables where these big decisions are being made.

“Successful people are often comfortable sharing their half-baked ideas.” - Eleanor Beaton

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • Why more women need to speak up and provide their insight during meetings
  • The impact that honing your persuasive speaking and presentation skills can have on your success as a leader.
  • The impression you portray to others by not speaking up in meetings.
  • How to get more comfortable with speaking up in meetings.

Powerhouse Tips for Fierce Feminine Leaders:

  1. Share ideas that aren’t fully formed.
  2. Set a goal before you enter the meeting.
  3. Focus on the goal of the meeting and the people it serves.
  4. Ask for help.

Fierce Leadership Quotes:

  • “If you’re sitting around a table and your voice isn’t heard - you have got to remedy that.”
  • “To truly make an impact and unlock the next step in your career or business, you have to do more than take your seat at the table. You have to learn how to use your voice.”
  • “It’s not about having self-doubt. It’s about dealing with it when it happens.”

Many women tend to downplay their achievements. They are worried that their efforts to get out there and own their accomplishments may come across negatively - as if they’re showing off. This worry is only one of the many fears that prevent women from moving forward and from knowing what they are capable of accomplishing.

Today, I’m sharing five self-promotion fears that could be holding you back from your ultimate potential. I’m also sharing how to overcome this fear and how to effectively and confidently promote yourself without sounding conceited and egotistical.

“Focus on the people who will benefit from the success that you create and drive and allow that to be the fuel that allows you to engage in a strategic art of self-promotion.”

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • How downplaying your accomplishments can hurt you
  • Where to begin when overcoming the fear of self-promotion
  • The significance of belonging to an intentional community
  • What the Tall Poppy Syndrome is
  • The inevitability of failure and how to perceive it
  • What Impostor Syndrome is
  • Where to learn to promote yourself strategically

Five Fears of Self-Promotion:

  1. Fear of what your family and friends are going to say
  2. Fear that people won’t like you
  3. “Who does she think she is?” Fear
  4. Fear of commitment
  5. Fear from suffering from Impostor Syndrome

Fierce Leadership Quotes:

  • “Self-consciousness of any kind inhibits high performance.”

While society thinks that being selfish is something negative, there are advantages - especially when it comes to your professional life. This “selfishness” does not mean you should neglect your responsibilities and valuable relationships. It simply means giving yourself time to focus on your priorities so you can have the energy to make progress on the things that are essential to you and your career.

Today, I’m sharing why successful women are more selfish when it comes to their priorities and why you should learn to embrace episodic selfishness — an essential tool that allows you to drive your career forward while keeping your sanity. I’m also sharing why women struggle to be selfish, how being selfish boosts your performance, and some practical ways to be selfish without alienating support and the people that matter.

“Reframe selfishness as focus.”

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • The fear of being selfish
  • Why you need to allow people to fail
  • Being noble vs. leading to burnout
  • Why women are reluctant to be selfish
  • A look at Anna Fels’ report about how women perceive ambition
  • When a woman’s goals become acceptable
  • How athletes become “selfish” with their time to achieve their full potential
  • The mindset that will prevent you from making an impact
  • How your focus is under siege
  • What episodic selfishness is
  • How long moments of episodic selfishness should be
  • What women need to unlearn about setting boundaries

How to Focus Your Priorities:

  1. Lay down boundaries.
  2. Focus on the things that are important to you.

Resources Mentioned:

  • Episode 259: Why Your Fear of Overwork is Killing Your Ambition
  • Do Women Lack Ambition? A Study by Anna Fels on Harvard Business Review

Fierce Leadership Quotes:

  • “Focus is the core psychological skill of high performance.”
  • “Focusing on what you need to do to accomplish your goal rather than blocking out everything else is fundamental to being productive, organized, and high-performing.”
  • “Your biggest limitation is the belief that you need to be all things to all people.”

One of the Most Important Gifts You Can Give Yourself!

Do you want to learn how to set powerful boundaries so you don’t get burned out and eventually tap out? Many women obtain a certain level of success by following the rules in the world of business -- a world initially built for and by men. These rules have taught us that if we keep working hard and striving for our goals, we’ll reach that next level of success. Some women decide to play a smaller game, neglecting their dreams and ambitions out of fear of being overworked, overwhelmed, and disrupting the work-life balance they have established.

In this episode, I’m sharing how to unlearn the old rule that more success equals more work and how this rule keeps you from getting to the next level of success. I’m sharing the reasons why hard work will not take you to the next level, how to avoid overworking, and how powerhouse women manage their workload and get results.

“Success is not the result of your labor. Success is the result of your leverage.”

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • The wrong mindset about success
  • The pivotal moment for Arianna Huffington regarding hard work and success
  • When hard work is a competitive advantage and when it starts to be a disadvantage
  • How hard work hurts your leadership
  • How overwork impacts leaders negatively
  • Why it is hard to be strategic when you’re overworked

Three Reasons Why Hard Work is Killing Your Ambition:

  1. It gets you in the door, but it won’t up-level you.
  2. Overwork undermines your leadership presence.
  3. When you’re overworked, it’s hard to be strategic.

Resources Mentioned:

Fierce Leadership Quotes:

  • “Real success doesn’t mean working yourself to the bone. Real success means fulfillment. It means thriving.”
  • “Being at a high level of success means getting stuff done with as little effort as possible.”
  • “You’ve got to work smart. You’ve got to work strategically. That’s how powerhouse women operate.”
