She shares how she balanced her work life and family life as she built her career and her company while having two children. Gender inclusion in the corporate and working world has come a long way over the last several decades. However, now that more women are starting to hold seats at the tables where the big decisions are made - many female leaders struggle with speaking up, providing their valuable insight, and making meaningful contributions to the conversations and decisions that are being made.

On today’s episode, I’m discussing why you need to speak up, buttercup! I explain why powerhouse women won’t stay silent when sitting around the big tables in their businesses or organizations and how staying silent robs the conversation - and the people in it - of your value, insight, and brilliance. I’ll also share strategies you can use to help you find your voice and speak up at the tables where these big decisions are being made.

“Successful people are often comfortable sharing their half-baked ideas.” - Eleanor Beaton

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • Why more women need to speak up and provide their insight during meetings
  • The impact that honing your persuasive speaking and presentation skills can have on your success as a leader.
  • The impression you portray to others by not speaking up in meetings.
  • How to get more comfortable with speaking up in meetings.

Powerhouse Tips for Fierce Feminine Leaders:

  1. Share ideas that aren’t fully formed.
  2. Set a goal before you enter the meeting.
  3. Focus on the goal of the meeting and the people it serves.
  4. Ask for help.

Fierce Leadership Quotes:

  • “If you’re sitting around a table and your voice isn’t heard - you have got to remedy that.”
  • “To truly make an impact and unlock the next step in your career or business, you have to do more than take your seat at the table. You have to learn how to use your voice.”
  • “It’s not about having self-doubt. It’s about dealing with it when it happens.”

She explains how focusing on empathy impacted her personal and professional life, why having a brand-first approach to working with various companies was an important factor to her when deciding to transition into new roles or companies, and the lessons she has learned as she transitioned from one role to another. She also explains the importance of focusing more on “the vital few” projects within your organization and less on “the worthwhile many” and how it can impact your company’s growth and brand trajectory.

Many women tend to downplay their achievements. They are worried that their efforts to get out there and own their accomplishments may come across negatively - as if they’re showing off. This worry is only one of the many fears that prevent women from moving forward and from knowing what they are capable of accomplishing.

Today, I’m sharing five self-promotion fears that could be holding you back from your ultimate potential. I’m also sharing how to overcome this fear and how to effectively and confidently promote yourself without sounding conceited and egotistical.

  • Where to begin when overcoming the fear of self-promotion
  • The significance of belonging to an intentional community

While society thinks that being selfish is something negative, there are advantages - especially when it comes to your professional life. This “selfishness” does not mean you should neglect your responsibilities and valuable relationships. It simply means giving yourself time to focus on your priorities so you can have the energy to make progress on the things that are essential to you and your career.

Today, I’m sharing why successful women are more selfish when it comes to their priorities and why you should learn to embrace episodic selfishness — an essential tool that allows you to drive your career forward while keeping your sanity. I’m also sharing why women struggle to be selfish, how being selfish boosts your performance, and some practical ways to be selfish without alienating support and the people that matter.

“Reframe selfishness as focus.”

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • The fear of being selfish
  • Why you need to allow people to fail
  • Being noble vs. leading to burnout
  • Why women are reluctant to be selfish
  • A look at Anna Fels’ report about how women perceive ambition
  • When a woman’s goals become acceptable
  • How athletes become “selfish” with their time to achieve their full potential
  • The mindset that will prevent you from making an impact
  • How your focus is under siege
  • What episodic selfishness is
  • How long moments of episodic selfishness should be
  • What women need to unlearn about setting boundaries

How to Focus Your Priorities:

  1. Lay down boundaries.
  2. Focus on the things that are important to you.

Resources Mentioned:

  • Episode 259: Why Your Fear of Overwork is Killing Your Ambition
  • Do Women Lack Ambition? A Study by Anna Fels on Harvard Business Review

Fierce Leadership Quotes:

  • “Focus is the core psychological skill of high performance.”
  • “Focusing on what you need to do to accomplish your goal rather than blocking out everything else is fundamental to being productive, organized, and high-performing.”
  • “Your biggest limitation is the belief that you need to be all things to all people.”

Many women obtain a certain level of success by following the rules in the world of business -- a world initially built for and by men. These rules have taught us that if we keep working hard and striving for our goals, we’ll reach that next level of success. Some women decide to play a smaller game, neglecting their dreams and ambitions out of fear of being overworked, overwhelmed, and disrupting the work-life balance they have established.

In this episode, I’m sharing how to unlearn the old rule that more success equals more work and how this rule keeps you from getting to the next level of success. I’m sharing the reasons why hard work will not take you to the next level, how to avoid overworking, and how powerhouse women manage their workload and get results.

“Success is not the result of your labor. Success is the result of your leverage.”

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • The wrong mindset about success
  • The pivotal moment for Arianna Huffington regarding hard work and success
  • When hard work is a competitive advantage and when it starts to be a disadvantage
  • How hard work hurts your leadership
  • How overwork impacts leaders negatively
  • Why it is hard to be strategic when you’re overworked

Three Reasons Why Hard Work is Killing Your Ambition:

  1. It gets you in the door, but it won’t up-level you.
  2. Overwork undermines your leadership presence.
  3. When you’re overworked, it’s hard to be strategic.

Resources Mentioned:

Fierce Leadership Quotes:

  • “Real success doesn’t mean working yourself to the bone. Real success means fulfillment. It means thriving.”
  • “Being at a high level of success means getting stuff done with as little effort as possible.”
  • “You’ve got to work smart. You’ve got to work strategically. That’s how powerhouse women operate.”

The word “collaboration” usually has a positive connotation -- being productive as you work with others. In business, partnering with other people does not always have this outcome. There are fruitful collaborations that allow you and your partners to grow and there are those that leave you stressed, unproductive, and stagnant. How would you know which partnerships will help you soar?

In this episode, I’m sharing why women tend to waste their time with partnerships and collaborations that go nowhere. I’m sharing how to recognize the signs of an unproductive collaboration, and where to get the information you need to develop the tools that will help you identify better partnerships in the future that will move you and your business forward.

“It is okay to say ‘no,’ to be strategic, to bow out of over commitments.” - Eleanor Beaton

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • What collaboration means
  • The reality about collaborating women
  • Reasons why women enter into time-wasting partnerships
  • Over commitment and miscalculation
  • The significance of bringing your assets to the table
  • Strategic collaboration vs. Anti-collaboration
  • An example of a healthy and productive collaboration

Signs of an Unproductive Collaboration:

  • When it’s going to drain your time and energy without giving you much in return
  • When somebody invites you to collaborate, and they have no track record that proves they can do what they say they can do
  • When somebody does exactly what you do
  • When you have to create something new that you’re not already doing

Fierce Leadership Quotes:

  • “The rule of being nice is just one rule that we, as powerhouse women leaders, need to break.“
  • “For a collaboration to be effective, you each have to be bringing assets to the table.”
  • “Your next level of success has so much more to do with what you say ‘no’ to than to what you say ‘yes’ to.”

It’s a common saying that rules are meant to be broken. Perhaps there is some wisdom in this quote in the sense that some people have found success by thinking out of the box, going the extra mile, and breaking old rules. This mindset is what we’re going to talk about today as I share an interview with Amanda Boleyn that was originally aired on the She Did It Her Way Podcast.

In this episode, I’m sharing how to create success by breaking old rules, inventing new ones, and doing it your way. I’m sharing why women struggle to replace their corporate income after taking the leap to entrepreneurship, how to get rid of limiting beliefs, the truth about confidence and how to get it, and how high income earning business women think.

“There is an intentional bending of the rules in order to achieve the greater good or greater outcome in an effort to do what’s right.” - Eleanor Beaton

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • The influence in my life that encouraged me to pursue professional success my way
  • Why the majority of corporate women struggle to replace their corporate income
  • What the Farmer Orientation means in business
  • The elements of successful businesses
  • How to put your focus on the money without being controlled by it
  • Two significant parts of having predictable revenue
  • Confidence vs. competence
  • Key skills that successful business women have
  • What men know that women don’t about influence, money, and power
  • The significance of tapping into informal relationships to show people that you can add value

Eleanor’s Words of Wisdom:

  • If you can, find your way into smaller rooms.
  • Leverage your time before and after the meetings.
  • Power and influence express itself informally.

While women face various challenges around the globe, there are those -- both young and old -- who go against the tide and stand up for what they believe in. In celebration of International Women’s Day, we’re going to honor women who found their voice and made it heard — women who acted on their convictions and literally changed the world.

In this episode, I’m sharing five warrior queens — women and girls who inspire others to make a difference just like they did. I’m sharing their stories and achievements, what they fight for, and how they contributed to society to make this world a better and safer place for women.

“What I have found from working with women is that we need a good reason, a meaningful reason to do meaningful change.” - Eleanor Beaton

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • What led the teenage girl, Memory Banda from Malawi, to demand an end to child marriages and gender-based violence
  • Her most important achievement that significantly impacted the safety of the girls in Malawi
  • The significant environmental work and contribution of the woman scientist, Sylvia Earle
  • Television producer, Shonda Rhimes, who changed the face of TV herself
  • How this TV producer impacted diversity and inclusion in the workplace
  • Why woman business owner, Sallie Krawcheck, is committed to supporting women to take control of their financial future
  • How the teenage Anishinaabe girl, Autumn Peltier, became a water protector and earned the attention of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the U.N.

How You Can Make A Difference:

  • What traumatic experience that you have been through can you use as an ingredient to fuel meaningful change for yourself, your family, your society?
  • Make one meaningful act of contribution toward making our planet a better and more sustainable place.
  • What action can you take to increase diversity in the world around you?
  • Take control of your money. Take one action to improve your financial future.
  • Get out there and do one thing every day to make the world a better place for you, your family, and others.

Throughout every industry, we frequently hear successful entrepreneurs say that it’s important to be authentic in the way you present yourself to the world. But, oftentimes, the reason why being authentic and being yourself is so important and the impact it can have on your career or business is rarely discussed.

My guest today is Amanda Coolong. She is the Senior Digital Media Executive, content strategist, and serves as the Co-Chair and Head of Content for the company, Women in Technology International – a global organization and leading authority for women in the technology trade. Additionally, she is a founding partner and COO at Tech Zulu, an established podcaster, and has interviewed hundreds of the top leaders in the tech ecosystem for a wide variety of events including CES, South by Southwest, and Blog World.

Amanda joins me today to share her insight and experience on how being you – unapologetically – and being unafraid to be seen, heard, and network with others can help you grow your network and give your career and business the success boost you need in 2017.

“It’s okay to toot your own horn. Do not be afraid to own your own work.” – Amanda Coolong

Being a fierce feminine leader can sometimes be exhausting. High performing leaders often wear so many hats in our professional and personal live, thinking about other people’s needs and wants, that we often forget about our own. Whether you are running a business or climbing the corporate ladder, you need to stay in peak physical and emotional condition to continue to perform well.

But, how do you keep in top physical condition to have the energy you need to stay at the top of your game? What does it take to have the energy and vitality to underscore your ambitions? As your professional career grows, the self-care needs that once worked for you may change and grow with you.

My guest today, Kristen Nolan, is a powerhouse in the woman’s health industry. Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • How to identify when you need to tweak your diet to perform at a higher level.
  • How stress affects your metabolism and overall health.
  • Ways to bring mindfulness into your day and how it helps reduce stress and improve performance.

Have you ever felt as though you were sabotaging your own success? Many women in business – especially those in leadership roles – unknowingly, unintentionally, unconsciously self-sabotage their potential for success and drastically limit the scope of what is possible for themselves in their careers, their income, and their lives.

On today’s episode, I want to share some of the top five ways many high-performing, highly motivated, fierce feminine leaders tend to sabotage their own potential for success – and what you should do to avoid making the same mistakes.

When you use the word ‘can’t’ – you make it true.

Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:

  • The first step to avoiding self-sabotaging actions and behaviors is to understand the most common ways it happens.
  • You have a choice. The choice to deal with the discomfort of playing small, or the choice to deal with the pain and discomfort of being seen.

How to Avoid Self-Sabotaging Your Success:

  • Instead of saying “can’t” – ask yourself: “How might I…”
  • If you have a goal, go for it. The time is now. Make the time.
  • Ask yourself what assumptions you are making.
  • Be scientific and rigorous about applying logic to the ideas and beliefs that you are assuming to be true.
